Cusco-Inca Trail-Choquequirao 20 days


DAY 1: Arrival in Lima

Airport pick-up and airport-hotel transfer

Overnight: Hotel*** in Lima city.


DAY 2: Lima – Cusco

Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the airport. Flight Lima - Cusco. Arrival in Cusco and transfer to the hotel.

Overnight: Hotel*** in Cusco city.


DAY 3: Cusco City Tour

13:45 Hrs. Aprox. We will visit the Cusco city, visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the tempo of the Sun or Koricancha. We will drive out of the city to visit the Inca sites of Qenko, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay and impressive archaeological complex of Sacsayhuaman strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco, famous for its enormous carved stones joined with astounding precision to form the outer walls, some of them standing over 9 feet tall and weigh over 350 tons. 18:30 Hrs. return to the city of Cusco.

DAY 4: Sacred Valley Tour - Ollantaytambo

8:15 AM. Pick up. We will start the guided tour through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to the following places:

Pisaq, typical Andean village, traditional and archaeological where there were the famous fairs, visiting fairs, typical markets and archaeological remains.

We arrive at the town of Urubamba for a delicious buffet lunch at a country restaurant.

Ollantaytambo Archaeological Group, agricultural complex administrative, social, religious and military time Tahuantinsuyo, comprising temples, platforms and connected by a complete system of irrigation canals.

DAY 5: Inca Trail

8:00 AM Pick up from the hotel by bus, to continue our trip going to Piskacucho on kilometer 82 to begin to our walk from 5 to 6 hours aproximately to the Andean town of Huayllabamba where we will camp the first night. Previous visit to the archaeological group of Patallacta.

Total distance: 12 km (7,47 miles).

Estimated walking time: 5-6 hours.

Maximum altitude point: 3,000 m (9,840 ft)

Campsite altitude: 3,000 m (9,840 ft)


DAY 6: Inca Trail

After the breakfast we begin our journey, the most difficult in the circuit to conquer the Step of Warmiwañusca located at 4,200 m.s.n.m. from where we will be able to visualize the mountains, valleys, picks with snow perpetuate, it stops then to descend until the sector of Pacaymayu camp place.

Total distance: 11 km (6,84 miles).

Estimated walking time: 6-7 hours.

Maximum altitude point: 4,200 m (13,776 ft).

Campsite altitude: 3,500 m (11,480 ft).


DAY 7: Inca Trail

In this journey, we meet with the original road, During this day we will be able to visit one another wonderful archaeological group, among these Runkurakay figures, Sayaqmarka, Phuyupatamarka, and finally Wiñaywayna, camp.

Total distance: 16 km (9,94 miles).

Estimated walking time: 8 hours.

Maximum altitude point: 3,900 m (12,792 ft)

Campsite altitude: 2,650 m (8,692 ft)


DAY 8: Inca Trail

This journey is the most prospective for all, our effort will be rewarded, we walk 2.00 hours aproximately toward Inti Punku, where we will have a splendid panoramic view of Machupicchu,then, we will continue our trek to enter to Machu Picchu Sanctuary, where we will have a guided visit, having a free time to take pictures an walk around, subsequently we will descend to the station of the train to return to the city of the Cusco.

Total distance: 4 km (2,49 miles).

Estimated walking time: 2 hours.

Maximum altitude point: 2,700 m (8,829 ft).

DAY 9: Cusco - Free Day

DAY 10: Choquequirao trek

We leave Cusco at 6:00 in the morning for the 5 hour drive to the town of Cachora. Here we will have a late breakfast, meet our wranglers and arrange our equipment on mules and horses. It is a 2 hour hike to Capuliyoc (2915m) from where we have our first beautiful views of the Apurimac valley stretching below as well as the snow-capped peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora. We then descend toward Coca Masana (2330m) where the climate becomes noticeably warmer and the flora and fauna begin to change. Finally we arrive at Playa Rosalina at 1550m beside the raging Apurimac River where we will set up camp and spend the night.


DAY 11: Choquequirao trek

This is considered the hardest of the 5 days. After an early breakfast to climb a steep trail. It is a 5 hour hike to Raqaypata beside the Chunchullumayo River where we will have a late lunch and a much deserved rest. Along we way we will observe many orchids and wild flowers as well as many birds. From Raqaypata to CHOQUEQUIRAO (3035m) is a 2 hour hike,Our guide will explain the history and importance of the site. After you will have free time to visit the many sectors of the complex and time to enjoy the sunset and maybe the opportunity to see a Condor flying nearby. Our campsite will be just outside the ruins. Late in the afternoon we will start the return trek and camp the night at Raqaypata.


DAY 12: Choquequirao trek

After breakfast we continue our return trek with a steep descent towards the Apurimac river where we will stop and have lunch in the afternoon we will climb for approximately 4 hours to Our final campsite at Coca Masana.


DAY 13: Choquequirao trek

After a 3 hour climb we reach Capuliyoc. From then on it is a fairly flat trail back to the village of Cachora. We will say goodbye to our wranglers and take the bus back towards Cusco. a chance to rest and have lunch. A further 4 hours by bus bring us back to Cusco. After a luxurious hot Springs.

DAY 14: Cusco - Free Day

DAY 15: Bus Cusco - Puno

At about 7:00 am we’ll pick up you from your hotel and transfer you to the bus station, then, we’ll take the bus to go to Puno City, This service includes Turistic visits to the principal archaeological areas in the route: Andahuaylillas, Racchi, Pukara, Racchi and. buffet lunch, we’ll be arriving Puno at 16:30 aprox. Reception and transfer to your hotel in Puno.

DAY 16: Uros floating islands - Amantani (homestay)

Pick up from your hotel at 07:45 a.m.and transfer to the port

We will take our motor-boat ride on Lake Titicaca to visit the uros floating islands. For hundreds of years the livelihood of this tribe is based on the benefits of a unique plant: the totora reed (scyrpus totora). They use it to build their homes, boats and even the floating islands they live on, periodically adding new layers of reeds. They also use it in their highly developed weaving.

You will have time to share with the people the Uros, and then we will continue on to the Amantani Island - Lake Titicaca.

On Amantani island, we will visit the sacred Temple of the Pachatata or Pachamama and enjoy the folkloric show to the rhythm of the music characteristic of Amantani Peru prepared by the native families who are willing to share its homes for a pleasant night and taste its typical dishes made of food of the island.

DAY 17: Taquile

Visit to the Taquile island to enjoy the nature, customs and textile art of the Taquileños.

On Taquile island the people maintain their old customs, dressing in traditional clothing and doing things the old way. You will witness the millenary techniques of hand- weaving beautiful textiles. There is also a craft fair on the main square that sells exceptional wool goods which are of very fine quality and somewhat expensive; also you will enjoy a typical lunch in Taquile (natural products), after that you must to descend a stairway of more than 500 steps - streaks of stone that wind their way among greenery platforms, we will reach the port and come back to Puno by motor boat.

You will arrive to Puno at 3:45 pm aprox.

DAY 18: Puno - Chivay - Colca Canyon

We will pick you up from the hotel and transfer to Chivay Village.

Overnight: Hotel*** in Colca valley.


DAY 19: Colca Canyon - Arequipa

6:00 AM Breakfast. After breakfast we’ll set off for Cruz del Condor (about a 2 hour drive) considered the best viewpoint to truly appreciate the vast expanse of Colca Canyon and also the prime location for condor viewing. Afterwards, on our journey back to Chivay we’ll see archeological sites, pre-Inca farming terraces, and stop at other Colca Canyon lookout points. We’ll pass through the towns of Pinchollo, Maca, and Achoma, and then stop in Yanque to see some typical churches, artisan markets, and view the typical dress of the region. We will have lunch back in Chivay before departing for Arequipa. We’ll arrive back in Arequipa around 5:00pm.

DAY 20: Arequipa - Lima - Departure
